jellyfish

Written by Cecilia

Jellyfish is cute, the way it swims really impresses me. I had it once in my aquarium. Not just me, SpongeBob also loves jellyfish. Indeed, he’s crazy about them. People know jellyfish is quite a dangerous sea creature for its poisonous stings. And here’s the horror begins …

Do you know that today, the number of jellyfish is increasing tremendously? According to the latest report, jellyfish almost dominate 2/3 of our planet. In some areas, they found 10 jellyfish per square meters. In 2007, Hawaii and Ireland had jellyfish pest. And so did Israel and France in 2008, Tunis and Italy in 2009. In Japan, you can even find 1.8 meter jellyfish and in Australia 2.5 meter. A giant jellyfish only needs 3 minutes to kill a human with its poisonous sting.

PostHeaderIcon Monstrous ‘beyond imagination’ fish found deep under Great Barrier Reef

Written by Cecilia

Fish

Great Barrier Reef is the world’s greatest reef located in Australia. A team of Queensland University’s researchers has found monstrous fish at 1500-meter depth under Great Barrier Reef. In the research, they used a super hi-tech camera which was operated from a remote controller base.

The discovery was magnificent! They saw many new species of giant fish which were just like in the fiction. They found prehistoric shark with six fins, mackerel-like fish, some Crustacea family, and the legendary Nautilius – somekind of giant octopus with shell which is a million-year-old species.

This unbelievable discovery has encouraged the researchers to search deeper in the Australian Sea. For their next expedition, they will cooperate with taxonomists, geologists and experts from all over the world to research the 2000-meter depth.

The expedition is not only useful for species classification, but also for medical improvement, especially in the study of human brain. According to Justin Marshall, an Australian ocean biologist, the study of underwater creatures can help to cure brain abnormalities, for example epilepsy, because the science of neurology was firstly developed from the study of giant octopus’ neuron system.
